The Mountain Grove High School Alumni Memorial Foundation would like to express appreciation to all our returning alumni and the many friends of Alumni Park who helped to make the weekend of July 4-6 so successful. The parade led by the organizing Class of 1953 was superb in entries and spirit and the Class of 1973 organized one of the best banquets and programs to be seen in some time. I don't know of anyone who could say they did not enjoy it.
The Saturday lunch in Alumni Park was well attended and the serving line moved quickly enough that almost everyone was served by 12:30 p.m., leaving plenty of the afternoon for visiting and becoming reacquainted with old classmates and friends.
Several Mountain Grove businesses and individuals were more than generous in their support of our fund raising efforts and we would like to recognize them: Mountain Grove Building Supply for ice, Will-Co for trash disposal, Wilma Ellis at China Grove for baked beans, Town & Country Supermarket for potato chips, Eddie and Carolyn Welch for the loan of industrial fans that made life under the big shelter bearable, Craig-Hurtt-Bradley for their canopy, Brenda Marah and Clara Faye Dennis for decorating the park, Doril Leascher for his display of old photographs, Kent and Marsha Jorgenson and their children who came all the way from California to help Marsha's dad, Jim Salyer, to prepare the meat and set up equipment, Doris Smith for helping to serve, Jo Hurtt who served chips and kept the line moving, Marty and Janet Brown kept the cold drinks flowing and Dock Frazee who as usual, was the designated gofer, filling in wherever
needed.
We would like to thank all of
those who bought an engraved brick, a Meals and Memories book or tickets on the hand pieced quilt. Ron Shannon, Class of 1978 was the proud winner of the quilt and matching shams.
Please permit me to briefly explain the qualifications and duties of the MGHS Alumni Memorial Foundation board. It is made up of 13 officers and members who serve 3 year terms. It is a hands on working board who meet
10 months out of the year. Members must be graduates of MGHS. Several members have served since it's founding and signed on to a $20,000 loan to start construction. Some members have resigned after a period of time, while others have moved away or passed on. When that occurs, several names are presented for consideration and a candidate is selected. That person is then notified and asked to serve. The board is always open to suggestions to fill a vacancy. If you or someone you know are interested in serving, please notify a board member, and in the event of a vacancy, that person will be considered. We are particularly interested in mentoring new members who may have graduated in the seventies, eighties or nineties.
Alumni Park is preparing to move into a new era of construction on the south adjacent property. Architect Lee Young, a Dallas, Texas, MGHS alumnus met with the board on Friday, July 4, and a consensus was reached as to the type of expansion that is needed. The details will follow as the 3-phase drawings are submitted. Stay tuned.
