ALUMNI 2004 and 2005 News
Submitted by Mary Ann Frazee

The Mountain Grove High School Alumni activities in 2004 brought some good news and some bad news for the sponsoring organizations.
The good news was that the largest crowd of visitors to Alumni Park in it's history gathered there following the Alumni Parade for lunch and to seek out old friends.
The weather cooperated, and appetites were high as people waited patiently in line for lunch. For the first time, some items on the menu were entirely consumed by the hungry crowd. Later in the afternoon many of those in the park made their way to the Old Rock Jailhouse where there were displays of historic memorabilia along with alumni arts and crafts booths, sponsored by the Mountain Grove Central Arts Council.
Participation was also high at the Alumni Drum and Bugle Corps reunion held at the Denny Home overlooking the park.

The bad news was that attendance at the annual Alumni Banquet was the lowest in several years, which was disappointing to the MGHS Alumni Association sponsors of the event and the MGHS Class of 1979 who worked so hard to prepare a nice program.
More and more alumni seem to be skipping the banquet to hold class reunions separate from the banquet or just leaving following the parade and park lunch. A successful banquet is critical to the continuation of the event and the awarding of scholarships to graduating seniors.
We appeal to reunion classes and all MGHS alumni to support this worthy cause by attending and encouraging others to attend the banquet.

The MGHS Alumni Association has set Saturday, July 2 as the date for the 2005 parade and banquet. The 25th year class of 1980 will coordinate the banquet.
There is a change in the location this year; it will be held at the YMCA. There will be more parking and space for class displays.
Tickets will be $12 in advance and $15 at the door. Class reservations and group ticket purchases can be made by contacting Derwin McGownd at (417)926-6737. Tickets will also be on sale in local banks and other merchants beginning June 1st.
The class of 1955 will be in charge of the parade which will take place at 11:00 A.M. Groups or classes can contact Glen Kemper at (417)926-5840, for more information about inclusion in the parade.
