MEALS AND MEMORIES READY FOR CHRISTMAS GIVING

After many months of preparation the highly anticipated publication, Meals and Memories, will be available on Monday, December 11, to the public. The book is a compilation of MGHS alumni favorite recipes put together by sisters Debbie Barbe and Susan Bushong with about one half of the book devoted to memories of school days by former students, histories of the school,.Green's Park, Alumni Park and the tradition of football. There are also biographies of alumni of' achievement, tributes to teachers, photographs, newspaper accounts of school events and trivia relating to the school. This portion of the book is divided into segments of the decades such as the early years, twenties, thirties, forties, etc.

The ongoing collection of materials for the book has been a year long project of the MGHS Alumni Memorial Foundation which oversees construction and maintenance of Alumni Park in Mountain Grove. Proceeds from the book will go for development on recent property acquisition from the City of Mountain Grove. Book chairman Mary Ann Frazee reflected on the work that has gone into the two hundred plus pages of the document by saying that the work has been painstaking and time consuming, but the result is worth the effort "We solicited contributions and support from alumni through a variety of ways, including newspaper articles, letters to the editor, Email, phone calls and letters through the U.S. mail asking that MGHS alumni submit recollections of school days, biographies or other pertinent information. We were disappointed that some people did not respond, but the quality of material received was exceptional and we thank everyone who replied." Frazee is a collector of local history and memorabilia who drew from her own sources for much of the historical information. Von Peterson then edited and processed selected material by computer.

Just in time for Christmas giving, Meals and Memories can be purchased at the Unicorn/Spiceberry Kafe on North Main Street or Shannon's Jewelry on the square.
