Eunice M. (Hoffman) Ferris

MOUNTAIN GROVE - Eunice M. (Hoffman) Ferris, 87, Mountain Grove, departed this life at 9:30 p.m. Feb. 21, 2000 In the Texas County Memorial Hospital, Houston Mo.

She had a stroke on Nov. 1, 1997, which left her partially paralyzed. Since that time, she had been a resident of Autumn Oaks Caring Center, Mountain Grove. She was 87 years, 5 months, and 3 days of age.

Eunice.was bom to the late Frederick and Johanna (Sengelman) Hoffman on Sept. 18, 1912, near Battle Creek, Iowa. She graduated from Battle Creek High School, and following graduation she attended Nebraska State Teacher's College, Wayne, Neb., and later became a rural school teacher. After moving to Missouri, she graduated from Southwest Baptist College, Boliver, In August of 1953. While attending school In Bolivar, she experienced a meaningful conversion. In 1977, Eunice retired from the Mountain Grove school system, following 41 years of teaching. Thirty-two of those years were spent teaching in Mountain Grove. She was united in marriage to Louis Monroe Ferris on Oct. 18,1952, In Mountain Grove.

Eunice and Louis became members of the First Baptist Church In Mountain Grove, where Louis served as a deacon for several years. They were very active and faithful workers In the church as long as their health permitted. Eunice also participated In several organizations, two of which. were Delta Kappa Gamma and the Missouri Retired Teacher's Organization.

Besides her parents, she was preceded ln death by her husband, Louis Ferris, on July 16, 1978; a brother, Henry Hoffman; and a sister, Ferne Baker.

She is surved by two brothers, Glenn Hoffman and his wife Garnett, Sterling, Ill., and Clifford Hoffman and his wife Genevieve of Mountain Grove, Mo.; one sister, Ruth Bahney, Sioux City, Iowa; two sisters-in-law, Hester Mae Hoffman of Mountain Grove, Mo., and Juanita Hedge of Kansas City, Kansas.; and other relatives and friends who will miss her very much.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in the First Baptist Church, Mountain Grove, Mo., with the Rev. Gene Edwards officiating, with burial in the Hillcrest Cemetery under the direction of the Craig-Hurtt-Bradley Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. in the funeral home.
