Death Claims Area Educator
Nathen Leonard Weems, 59, of 1001 South New, died at 4:20 a.m. Sunday at St. John's Hospital after a long illness.
Mr. Weems had taught driver's education at Central High School for the past 13 years. He was a former high school principal of Mountain Grove and former superintendent of the Morrisville, Sparta and Fair View schools.
A graduate of Southwest Missouri State University, Mr. Weems received his masters degree from the University of Missouri. He was a member of the Missouri State Teachers Association, the Springfield Education Association and the Red Cross, the Mountain Grove Masonic Lodge, and the Wanda Methodist Church in Newton County.
Surviving are his wife, Irene, one son, Gerald, of 1061 South New, two daughters, Miss Phyllis Weems, Springfield, and Mrs. Patricia Kellough, Wichita, Kans.; two brothers, the Rev. Lee Weems, Pittsburg, Kas. and Oral Weems, Diamond: two sisters, Mrs. Mary Ellen Harris and Mrs. Jewell Doty, both of Davis, Calif. and four grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 4:00 p.m. Tuesday in Ralph Thieme Chapel with the Rev. Robert Dart and Lowell B. DeBusk officiating. Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Wanda Cemetery in Newton County.
